Snowy's corner.

The other day I uploaded a shot of a white pigeon that has been visiting for the last month or so and has now made home here as she or he has difficulty flying. After some suggestions (thank-you everyone) my wife decided on Snowy - we don't of course know whether Snowy is male or female. Snowy is a great old Aussie name, for people like me (mostly men I must admit) who have silvery white hair. Snowy is eating well, moving about on the ground ok and quite bossy to other pigeons or galahs but just can't get off the ground far. He or she is really quite trusting.

Snowy has found a little spot in our side garden that is soft with sugar cane mulch and sits there much of the day and at night. It's quite hard for us in that we don't want to frighten her and have her land in someone else's yard or even the road and get lost, injured or worse. At the moment she is looked after and has her own food and water as well as access to the Galah's food when it is out.

We seem to end up with a number of birds in trouble - in this case we are reluctant to take her to the bird vet as pigeons are not really normally pets as such and we want her to be looked after and rehabilitated, not put to sleep because that's the easy way out! So that's where we are right now until we seek more advice which hopefully will end positively for her. We are also very conscious that if she doesn't use her wings and muscles these will probably go downhill, making her situation even more difficult.

Both the photos I have posted of Snowy seem to show some irregularities in one wing. However, this may be my angle or her angle, as when standing up everything seems to be in normal place and alignment.
