Remember.

June 6, 1944 Allied forces landed on five beaches in Normandy, France launching Operation Overlord, the retaking of Europe from the Axis powers. Thousands on both sides died on the beaches this day as narrow beach heads were established before the Allies commenced the long journey to retake the continent and head towards Berlin. Many thousands more on both sides would die along the way before the conflict came to an end. This is one of those beaches, Juno. (Archive shot 2013)

As a human race, we have never learnt the lessons have we?

"Our revels now are ended. These our actors,

As I foretold you, were all spirits and

Are melted into air, into thin air:

And, like the baseless fabric of this vision,

The cloud-capp'd towers, the gorgeous palaces,

The solemn temples, the great globe itself,

Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve

And, like this insubstantial pageant faded,

Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff

As dreams are made on, and our little life

Is rounded with a sleep."

William Shakespeare

From The Tempest, Act 4 Scene 1
