The Portent

This is Jenny's contribution from the beautiful sky on the morning we left Coonabarabran, New South Wales for the coast. It was a fabulous sunrise, taken on her phone but as per the old saying, it did herald a change in weather as a cold wet front swept in from the west. I didn't take a shot here but stopped down the road a bit for an attempted slightly different view. We were in the middle of nowhere of course and the spot I pulled over in had a bikie (motor bike rider) sleeping beside his bike in the roadside grass (not happy Jan), the colour dropped out of the scene in less than the ninety seconds we took to reposition - of course and lastly, my shot managed to have a set of powerlines through the most colourful part. Portent indeed, the trash bin for that shot.

Thankfully, although this was our longest drive of the trip, some 500 kilometres it was mostly on quiet country highways and some easy freeways leading towards Newcastle and the Central Coast. And one other blessing, we rarely leave quite this early to avoid kangaroos and the like but we saw none that day and little roadkill and in fact, while we have seen two mobs of emus, luckily so far, no incursions nor sightings of live kangaroos. Our wide brown land without a sighting of a kangaroo! Sometimes it happens that way.

By the way, if you look closely at this country scene, it is why we love our driving holidays in Australia, there is nothing quite like the sight, sound and smell of early mornings on country roads in our great country. I haven't really started my shots from the trip yet and will probably wait until we get home. It will give me something to do and keep me out of mischief!
