A Treasure of a Building

The old Queensland Government Treasury Building on the corner of the Queen Street Mall and George Street, Brisbane, Queensland. It was converted to the Treasury Casino many years ago now but once housed all manner of government offices in splendid olde worlde style! In the later '70's I used to visit a friend in this building who ran the Government Chemistry lab. I imagined him rather like Sherlock Holmes poring over his hissing Bunsen Burners and bubbling test tubes.

It was built from 1886 to 1928 for the Queensland Government. On 21 October 1992 the Italian Renaissance style building was added to the Queensland Heritage Register.
