Hot day swimming friends.
We were just about to go out for a short drive to get some fresh air on what turned out to be our hottest day of this summer so far, when our bird bath suddenly erupted with activity. So I was caught short with a camera not in the best of settings (shutter speed) in a situation I can't normally photograph because it is a bit close to the house and the birds usually take fright and fly into the trees. But they were rather busy with each other this afternoon, so I managed a few sub-optimal shots. I couldn't resist this one, three noisy miners having a splash like little kids - they were diving in and out, sloshing around and I even caught one on its back doing backstroke! It's absolutely delightful watching nature have such fun.
Our two resident juvenile magpies also came along and did likewise, quite happy even to open the wings and settle down into the water.
