Full service after all these years.

From the Brisbane Bayside Star newspaper. (March 12, 2020)

“In a world where petrol stations are about self service and convenience, one north Brisbane couple continues to offer service which harks back to a bygone era.

Bill and Marilyn Russell, both in their 70’s own Buckland Auto Service at Nundah, providing a full driveway service out the front and mechanic workshop out the back.

The business has been operating since about the 1930’s, and according to Mr. Russell, nothing much has changed in that time.*

The pump is Mrs. Russell’s domain. She also offers to check air in the tyres and look under the bonnet to check water and oil. She used to change tyres as well but she gave that up in her 50’s.

The business doesn’t sell grocery items or food but does have a small fridge with drinks. And it has a workshop where Mr. Russell services cars.”

* I grew up in this area and I can attest that little has changed with Bill’s garage although the world around it looks entirely different. In some ways! The Lutheran Church across the road is still there and the old fire station, now repurposed! A few original homes still stand but the rest from the front view has become high rise living.

Bill used to service my 1975 Corolla, it even had a carburettor and my Mum’s Corona. No doubt he is a dab hand with the technology of that era. Bill might struggle with a Tesla! Thanks Bill and Marilyn, keep on keeping on folks. If you drive by, drop in for a bottle of Golden Circle pineapple juice (just kidding!).
