Redland Bay

Way down the south of the greater Brisbane area is the now, city of Redlands named after this bay which is part of the bigger Moreton Bay. Redland Bay itself is the hopping off/on point for the southern Moreton Bay dormitory (mostly) islands of Macleay, Lamb, Karragarra and Russell with both water bus and barge services departing the terminals which are just north of here. Residents usually use older cars on the islands and many park better (mainland) cars at Redland Bay in the many large car parks. A ride out on the water bus, stopping off at one of the islands for lunch at a pub or restaurant is a nice way to fill in a few hours on the weekend or mid week. While there are few beaches on the islands, it is nevertheless a beautiful part of the world and somewhat of an idyllic lifestyle if you don’t mind the downsides of not having immediate access to the normal road system and facilities such as major supermarkets etc.

Suggestions over the years of building a bridge between the islands and onto Stradbroke Island have come to nothing. I would imagine that to build bridges and roads on these somewhat tightly packed islands would either impact on residents or the natural environments.
