“Ichigao Line No.51”

This photo shows the bottom part of the power line tower shown in “Tokyu Den’en-toshi Line 8500 Series Train in Front of Eda Substation.” Each power line tower has a panel like this.

The panel tells this is the 51st tower of Ichigao Line. These letters are easy to read, because Ichigao means the name of the place near this spot.

Not all power line names are easy to read like this one. Sometimes a completely new name is assigned to a power line, and we do not know how to read it. The power line shown in “Power Line Tower in Nippa” is such an example. It connects Kohoku Substation and Tsunashima Substation and it is named “North” “Island” Line in Chinese letters. I understand that “north” means Kohoku (port north), and “island” means Tsunashima (rope island), but those Chinese letters have more than one possible pronunciations. The line may be called “Kitajima Line,” or “Hokutou Line.” I do not know which way is used. It sometimes makes difficult to write description of a power line photo.
