Workers Going to Daikan-yama Station
Tokyu Toyoko Line Shibuya Station would move to underground next morning. The track switching work was done at Daikan-yama Station. Since the station does not have extra space, the new tunnel was built under the old track. The switching the track was a relatively simple job: remove old rails to open up the entrance of the new tunnel, remove old power lines, connect new rails, connect the new power lines, run a test train, and so on. The work was scheduled to finish before the first train in the next morning. The last train was scheduled at 24:45am and the first train in the morning was scheduled before 5:00am. So, the work had to be finished in about four hours. It may sound crazy, but Tokyu has already done similar work several times.
This photo shows people going to the switching work. I saw more than hundred people on this road. Information on web says 1,200 people worked this night.
