The Newest Track along Yamanote Line
This photo was taken from a car of Yamanote running from Tokyo to Kanda.
Yamanote Line and Keihin-tohoku Line are crowded between Ueno and Tokyo. Actually, it is the most crowded railroad section in Japan.
The reason is clear. Ueno has been used as the terminal for trains going to the north direction. Tokyo is the terminal for the trains for the south direction. In old days, Yamanote and Keihin-tohoku were enough to handle the traffic between the two stations. But the capacity is not enough now.
So, work to extend tracks from Ueno to Tokyo is under way. The problem is there is not enough space for the new track. Here the new track is constructed over the elevated railroad of Tohoku/Joetsu/Nagano Shinkansen.
