“MacArthur Road” Construction Site in Nishi-shinbashi
If you look at the photo closely, you will find the surface of the road is replaced with iron plates. New tunnel is being constructed here. It crosses this road here, and continues through the construction site in the white fence on the other side of the road, and the long space behind it, where no building is standing.
The road was planned when the Allied Powers occupied Japan after WWII. Rumor says that General Douglas MacArthur ordered it. That is the reason why the new road is sometimes called MacArthur Road.
