Seibu Tamagawa Line Tama Station
When this station opened in 1929, its name was “Tama-bochi-mae Station.” “Tama Bochi” is a large cemetery near this station. “Mae” means “in front of.” The name Tama Station was already used by Keio. Shiraito-dai Station was “Kita(north)-Tama Station” at that time.
Then, the cemetery changed the name to “Tama Rei’en.” Keio’s Tama Station was changed to “Tama-rei’en Station” in 1937. In 2001, Seibu changed Tama-bochi-mae Station to Tama Station. The railroad company also changed the name of Kita-tama Station to Shiraito-dai, because the station was at the south of Tama Station and it would confuse passengers.
The current station building was completed in 2020. It was built with the cooperation of Fuchu City, and the passageway in the station from east to west is a pedestrian-only road owned by the city. For a while after the station building was built, bicycles were prohibited from entering the station, so the Tamagawa Line cycle train service could not be used here. From April 2023, cycle train users were allowed to bring their bicycles with them, resolving this issue.
