Road at the South of JR Nakano Station

Though JR Chuo Line is on the ground level at the east and west of Nakano Station, and the station is elevated above Nakano-dori (Ring Road 6.5). It means that the street is at the bottom of a valley. According to the internet, the valley is artificial. Originally, the track was on the ground in this area, then, the ground was dug down around 1930 to allow Nakano-dori to run under the station.
