The bridge piers would also be replaced during the bridge renewal. The new piers would not be built directly underneath the old bridge, but on both sides of it. In this photo, you can see a white part sticking out from the bridge beam under construction. The tip of the protruding part is cylinder-shaped, and it would be placed on top of a new pier.
