Tamagawa Speedway Spectator Benches Being Dismantled
Tamagawa Speedway was the first permanent racing circuit in Japan. It existed from 1936 to the 1950s, upstream side of Toyoko Line’s bridge across the Tama River, on the right bank (Kawasaki side). The steps built on the slope of the embankment served as the benches of the circuit's spectators. The seating was left on the embankment even after the circuit was closed, but after flooding caused by a typhoon in 2019, the embankment was raised, and the seating was removed.
This photo was taken after the benches were removed. I can still see steps on the slope of the embankment.
