Hyakunin Isshu No.96 of Yoga Promenade

The poet is Nyudo Saki-no-Dajo-daijin. “Nyudo” means he became a priest. Saki-no-Daijo-daijin means he once was a chief minister of the imperial court. His name is Saionji Kintsune, or Fujiwara-no Kintsune.

The poem uses the same double meaning word “furu (fall/getting old)” as poem No.9. It depicts a scene in which cherry blossoms are blown away by strong spring winds and fall like snow. The author feels that he is getting old as he watches this scene.
