Hyakunin Isshu No.78 of Yoga Promenade

The poet is Minamoto-no Kanemasa.

The poem was created under the theme of “provers on the road to a checkpoint station. In the poem, the author wonders how many times the guards of the Suma checkpoint were awakened by the voice of the plover coming from Awaji Island. It is based on a poem created by Hikaru Genji, the main character of “The Tale of Genji.” He composes a poem in Suma, where he was in self-restraint in Suma, that says, “When a friendly group of plovers chirps at dawn, it feels good even if I am alone in bed.”
