Hyakunin Isshu No.47 of Yoga Promenade

Poems from No.47 are written in a different style. Poems from No.1 to No.46 were written only in hiragana letters. From No.47, Chinese characters and hiragana are used. The font is also different, and the name of the poet is shown with the poem.

The poet No.47 is Egyo-hoshi. “Hoshi” means he was a priest.

The poem describes an old residence covered with vines. It says “nobody visits here, but autumn has come.” It is interesting that the house was Kawara-no-in, the residence of Minamoto-no Toru, the poet No.14. His big and luxurious residence turned to ruins after about seventy to hundred years.
