E235 series for Yamanote Line does not have horizontal line. Instead, the passenger doors are painted in green, so that they look like green vertical lines. The reason why JR East adopted such design was that the bottom half of the train would be hidden by platform doors.
E235 series for Yokosuka Line and Sobu Line has horizontal lines. JR East does not plan to install platform doors for most of Yokosuka Line and Sobu Line stations. Anyway, the line near the roof will be visible in stations with platform doors.
