E235 series on the Yokosuka Line and Sobu Line, like E217 series, is usually operated as a 15-car train, with a 4-car train added to an 11-car train. You can see the part connecting the two trains near the right edge of this photo. Car No.4 of the additional train is connected behind car No.1 of the main train.
In this photo, a “box” is shown on the roof at the closer end of car No.2 of the main train. It is a tank to store compressed air for the brake system. The equipment is under the floor on E235 series on Yamanote Line. JR East decided to add a battery to E235 series, so that the train can move even when the power is lost, and the air tank was moved to the roof to make space for it. The air tank of car No.6 was also moved to the roof for the same reason.
