Hyakunin Isshu No.26 of Yoga Promenade

The poet is Teishin-ko. “Teishin-ko” is the name given after his death. His name was Fujiwara-no Tadahira. His elder brother, Fujiwara-no Tokihira was the main member of the group that chased down Sugawara-no Michizane, the poet No.24. Tokihira died at the age of 39, and it was rumored that his death was the work of the vengeful spirit of Michizane. Tadahira was not the one of the enemies of Michizane. He served in important positions in the Imperial Court for a long time and rose to the position of Kanpaku, who assisted emperor. He lived until 70.

It is said that this poem was written when Tadahira and the retired Emperor Uda went to see the autumn leaves in Mt. Ogura, and the retired Emperor Uda said that he wanted to show his son, Emperor Daigo, the view as well. In this poem, the author asks the autumn leaves of Mt. Ogura to wait without scattering until the emperor visits.
