This poem was sent to Kyogoku-no-miyasundokoro, who had been loved by retired Emperor Uda (He was a son of Emperor Koko, the poet No.15). Motoyoshi Shin’no and she had had a secret love affair, but it was revealed. Retired Emperor Uda forbade them to meet. In the poem the author says that he wants to see her even if he will be ruined.
