Hyakunin Isshu No.13 of Yoga Promenade

The poet is Yozei In. “In” means a retired emperor. He became an emperor when he was nine years old, retired eight years later.

This poem talks his love is like the water flowing through the Minano River from Mt. Tsukuba gradually becoming deeper and deeper into the abyss. I am not sure whether he had visited Mt. Tsukuba or not. It is a little far from Kyoto. Mt. Tsukuba is connected to love because it has two peaks, male mountain and female maintain, and the Minano River is written as “man-woman-river” in Chinese character.
