Flowers on Nanja-monja Tree in Tokyo Metropolitan Medical Plants Garden

This tree is called “Nanja-monja no Ki” or “Hitotsuba-tago” in Japanese. Binomial name is “Chionanthus retusus.” An alias “Chinese Fringetree” is written in Wikipedia.

 

The white thing on the tree is its flowers. The flowers bloom in May.

 

Tokyo Metropolitan Medical Plants Garden grows the tree for gene conservation. It is listed as “Vulnerable” in Red List defined by Ministry of the Environment of Japan.
