Minami-bashi Tunnel
This tunnel exists under the road shown in “An Elevated Road Going under Elevated Railroad of Tohoku/Joetsu Shinkansen.” The road is an overpass to go across JR tracks, and is called “Minami-bashi-ohashi,” and this tunnel is called “Minami-bashi Tunnel.”
Information on web tells why this tunnel was created. If you go toward the west from here, you will arrive at the bottom of a steep slope. If you go toward the east from here, you will arrive at JR tracks. So, this area was hard to access. The local government office created an overpass to connect the other side of the JR track and the top of the slope. They also created a road to go down gently to the bottom of the slope. The last part of the road is this tunnel under the overpass.
