Construction Site of Underground Diversion Channel of the Yazawa River
The Yazawa River is a relatively small river in Setagaya Ward with a long history of flooding. To prevent flood, an underground diversion channel is being constructed. The most part of the 3.2km long and 5.5m wide channel is under Ring Road No.8.
This photo shows the construction site of its downstream end. Trees with fruits are painted on the fence around it. This site was part of the orchard of Tokyo Metropolitan Engei High School. It may be the reason why trees were painted on the fence.
The shield machine started here in November 2021. Information on the web says that it had progressed 2.4km by mid-September 2022.
