An Opening of an Undergound Channel into the Tama River

This photo shows an opening of a channel on the left bank of the Tama River. The pale green thing beyond the opening should be the floodgate to prevent water flowing into the channel.

 

I do not think it is a covered river. My guess is this is a rainwater drainage channel.
