Auxiliary Traffic Signal near Kuramae-hashi

This traffic signal is not a usual one.

The road curves slightly to the left here, and there is an intersection 100m ahead. The problem is that a building by the road is hiding the intersection. When the red signal is lit at the intersection, the line of the waiting car can be long. A car turns the curve, then, it may crash into the end of the line.

So, this traffic signal is standing at the curve. The green and red light never lit. When the red signal at the intersection is lit, yellow light of this signal is turned on to warn the driver at the curve. The sign at the side of the signal says “advance notice signal.” The letters under it say “Beware of Rear-end Collision!”

I do not know if this kind of signal exists in other countries. Perhaps it is another Japanese traffic control trick?
