Beware of Flood

I took this picture at the bank the Sumida River under Sumida-gawa-ohashi. The chart shows the water level of large floods in the history.

A.P. stands for "Arakawa Peil". Peil is a Dutch word meaning "level". A.P. means the standard water level of the Arakawa River.

The worst record at the Sumida River is A.P.+4.21m caused by a typhoon in 1917. A.P.+5.02 is the record by Isewan Typhoon, which hit Nagoya in 1959 and killed 4580 people.

The wall is intended to protect the city against a typhoon as strong as Isewan Typhoon. If the water level exceeds A.P+6.4m, I do not know what happens.
