Koken Long Range Research Plane
Another plane on the parapet of Anamori-bashi. Continued from "Spirit of St. Louis on Anamori-bashi".
Koken Long Range Research Plane was a plane produced to make the world record of the longest non-stop flight. Koken is abbreviation of "Koku Kenkyu-jo", which means "Aviation Laboratory" in Japanese.
The plane flew 10651.011km for 62h22m in 1938 and made two world records. One was the longest non-stop flight, and the other was the fastest average speed for 10000km.
To fly long distance, it sacrificed the view of pilot, like Spirit of St. Louis. Do you notice that no cockpit can be seen in the picture? After the plane took off, they covered it to reduce the air resistance.
One thing the drawing does not restore is the color. It had red wings.
