Tama Monorail Train on Tappi-bashi
The picture shows a Tama monorail train running on Tappi-bashi.
Tappi-bashi is a bridge across the Tama River. It is located at the south of Tachikawa. When the bridge was constructed in 1989, it did not have Tama monorail track on it. The construction of Tama monorail in the south of Tachikawa began in 1992 and finished in 2000.
You may notice that the train looks taller than Tokyo monorail train. It is a result of solving a problem of Tokyo monorail train. When Hitachi created the train, the company had to hide the bulge on the floor made by the case of the driving unit. They located passenger seats on it. But the seats in the center of the floor are an annoying obstacle to walk in the car. Recent monorails in Japan have flat floor, by using higher floor. As a result, the train is taller.
