A Small Trick to Make a Big Noise
It may be hard to see the small "equal-signs" standing out on the center line. If a car runs on the center line, the surface makes a big noise as the warning for the driver.
Wikipedia describes the surface as "ramble strips". Maybe they are common in other countries. They appear in Japan after 2000.
