Public Bath “Matsu-no-yu” beside Railroad Crossing of Keio Line

The building beyond the railroad crossing has a chimney. It is a public bath named “Matsu-no-yu.” A pine tree exists in front of the building. Probably the name “Matsu (pine tree) no (of) Yu (hot water)” came from it.

Fifty years ago, many houses in Japan did not have a bath. People went to public bathes. Then, residents became to be built with a bath. Many public bathes were terminated.

According to the web, “Matsu-no-yu” continued operation until 2008. Then, it became “closed for some time.” The landromat shop seems to be active.
