Shinkansen 500 Series Train
As I wrote in the description of another picture, JR Tokai has three types of Shinkansen train: 300 series, 700 series and N700 series. There is another type of Shinkansen designed and owned by JR West: 500 series.
500 series is the first shinkansen train which can run faster than 300km/h. However, the narrow body has a problem with comfortableness. As the new N700 series is providing both 300km/h speed and comfortable wide body, 500 series is less important now.
JR recently announced that 500 series train will not run in Tokaido Shinkansen (east part, operated by JR Tokai) after March 2010. After that, it will be used as a local train in Sanyo Shinkansen (west part, operated by JR West).
