Nihon-bashi

Nihon-bashi was the starting point of five main national roads in Edo-era. This place is called Nihon-bashi, and the river is called Nihon-bashi river. I wonder what was the name of the river before the bridge was built. Perhaps the river was altered and got a new name after the bridge was built. A lot of civil engineering work was done in Edo-era.

The first Nihon-bashi was built in 1603. Current bridge is the 19th bridge made in 1911.

The expressway above is shutoko inner circular route.

Taken from Nishigashi-bashi.
