Traffic Jam at Ukishima Entrance of Aqualine in 2015 May
Aqualine is an expressway that connects Kawasaki and Kisarazu across Tokyo Bay. Its eastern part is a 5km long bridge, and western part is a 10km long tunnel. This photo was taken at the beginning of “Golden Week,” a long vacation period in May in Japan. Cars going to Kisarazu were making a long line in the tunnel. The panel says that the traffic jam continues for 5km, until the center of the tunnel part.
A photo taken in 2014 May is shown in “Traffic Jam at Entrance of Aqua Line 2.” The traffic jam was 2km long at that time.
The truncated-pyramid-shaped object is ventilating system of the undersea tunnel. Before Haneda D-runway was built, it was complete pyramid-shaped. A photo taken in 2008 July is shown in “Ukishima Ventilating Systems.”
