Tokyu 5000 Series Train at Azamino Station
The train looks like an express. Express service of Den’en-toshi Line stops three consecutive stations (Azamino, Tama-plaza, Saginuma) in this region.
At first, express trains stop at Tama-plaza and Saginuma, but they did not stop at Azamino. Tama-plaza was important for Tokyu Corporation because the company had a plan to develop the area. Saginuma was important for scheduling of trains because the station had a rail yard.
Then, Yokohama Subway Blue Line connected to Azamino in 1993. Number of passengers using the station increased, but Tokyu Corporation refused to make express service stop at the station. People had to wait for nine years until express service stopped at Azamino.
Similar thing had happened for Kikuna Station. JR Yokohama Line and Tokyo Toyoko Line have been connected to the station. JR started rapid service for Yokohama Line in 1988, and it skipped Kikuna until 2006. Now rapid service of Yokohama Line stops at two consecutive stations, Kikuna and Shin-yokohama.
