Crossing of Route 4 and Yasukuni-dori
This photo was taken on a pedestrian bridge across Route 4. This photo shows the south side of the bridge. North side of the bridge is shown in “Shutoko No.1 and JR Sobu Line over Route 4 at the South of Akihabara Station.”
Route 4 and Yasukuni-dori cross here, and a road is merged into Route 4. So, the crossing looks a little complicated. It is interesting that there is no sidewalk along the triangle-shaped space at the center. Pedestrians walking along Route 4 are expected to go around the outline of the crossing,
Another interesting thing is lane under Shutoko (metropolitan expressway) No.1. The lane for right turning car is located there. The key to increase capacity of a road is to allocate space for right turning cars so that they would not block cars that go straight. The space under the expressway is used for the purpose.
