Mountain Bulbul_March.28_HangZhou Botanical Garden

The Mountain Bulbul (Ixos mcclellandii) is a songbird species in the bulbul family (Pycnonotidae). It is often placed in Hypsipetes, but seems to be closer to the type species of the genus Ixos, the Sunda Bulbul or Green-winged Bulbul

It is found in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India, Laos, Malaysia, Burma, Nepal, Thailand, and Vietnam. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests. It is not considered a threatened species by the IUCN

You can easily find this species in Hang Zhou Botanical Garden in this season. This picture was taken beside a main street in this Garden. The bird was standing on a Camellia. I think it was taking nectar of the flower as its lunch. The bird put its head deeply inside the flower, you can see its frontal and bill covered with pollens. It has a long and sharp tongue, I have a picture when its tongue was out of the bill, it looks like the tongue of hummingbirds (Unfortunately the camera has lost its focus of the image at that time).
