The Mystery of Monastic Life
To many, the idea of joining a monastery is one of the most extreme life choices one can make. This is especially true in a culture that arguably worships such things as sex and wealth, instead of a more traditional God. Monastic life could be described as an extraordinary non-conformist path when compared to mainstream culture. This is truly a set apart group in more ways than one. The most obvious and immediate difference are the robes, known as 'habits'. To most this is a symbol of the unique commitment these men have made to their faith. Beyond unique, this level of devotion may appear foreign, mysterious or even heroic.
