Yellow-shafted (or intergrade) Flicker

David Bell, Jon Feenstra, Dan Maxwell. San Bernardino County, CA. Nov 8, 2013

In the field, I identified this bird as a yellow-shafted. However, Jon Feenstra pointed out that it lacks the red nape crescent, which suggests that it is more likely a RS x YS Flicker, or possibly a Gilded Flicker. Face pattern seems consistent with an intergrade.
