pyramid - 2017-8

pyramid teak - 40" tall x 20" w x 9" deep

This is a pyramid that depicts hierarchies in society. The peak is the 1% - a "platinum" triangle with black iron gates - the gated communities. It doesn't open. They are hidden.

The next drawer is the church. In terms of power the Catholic church wields quite bit. The facade is opulence and wealth. They collect art, and in the back rooms abuses take place.

Beneath the church is a living room of the wealthy - art patrons. They collect wealth to symbolize money. The art on the walls shows values rather than art. The portrait over the mantle is of Leona Helmsley.

The next drawer down is the back yard of the middle class. Without the money to afford collectable art, they buy what they like - though the curtains are still "Water Lilies" - everyone can have a Monet hanging in their living room.

The next drawer down is the kitchen of the working poor. These are people who buy what they like with no pretensions. And with no money to take in the cultural events they are uneducated - and unbothered by it all. Their values are more focussed on connections with their friends. For instance, social interaction takes place in peoples' kitchens.

The bottom drawer is the poor and homeless. This drawer does not open up. They are invisible in society. Their "voice" is the graffiti on the wall.

The other three sides are not included due to the allowable number of photos. They consist of an environmental statement, and the industries that have destroyed the planet. There is an interactive back panel - and a "signature" side panel.
