The coast of Essex just west of Clacton-on-Sea

I suspect those curious triangular outcrops along the beach, which resemble bastions in an 18th century fortification, have to do with discouraging shoreline erosion, since they appear to have small breakwater-like structures facing opposite ways from each point.
