The Bug Eyed Monster

A close-up view of the business end of the Super Hind Mi-24V (see www.flickr.com/photos/27683964@N00/269065747/) This really looks like a sci-fi machine finished in all black and looking very cyborg like with all it's curves and bulging bits. This souped up cold war chopper is the product of the ATE company in South Africa and includes:

• A new TV / FLIR sighting system.

• A digital head-up display.

• A helmet-mounted display compatible with NVGs.

• A mission computer.

• A GPS receiver.

• NATO-standard IFF.

• Doppler navigation radar.

• New chaff-flare dispensers.

• An optoelectronic rotor-balancing system.

• A new nose turret with a South African Armscor dual-feed 20 millimeter cannon with 840 rounds in cheek bins. The dual-feed system allows the gunner to select either armor-piercing or blast-fragmentation antipersonnel ammunition at will.

Carriage of eight South African Kentron ZT35 Ingwe or ZT6 Mokopa laser-guided antitank missiles. It's understood that their international clients include Algeria who ultimately plan to take delivery of 40 of these brutes.

And, in case you're wondering, yes, this is the same machine which features in the attack sequence of the film Blood Diamonds with Leonardo di Caprio.....
