Mercedes-Benz R-Class

Introduced in 2005, the R-Class never really took off in the way Mercedes hoped it would. It is among the less common Mercedes lines you'll find in the USA, with sales peaking at just under 20,000 in 2006 and declining irreversibly after that. By 2009, less than 3000 were being sold annually and by 2011 there was only a modest recovery to around 4000. Mercedes decided to quit building the R-Class soon after (2012 in the USA, 2013 in Europe) and the GL (now the GLS) has largely taken its place (as have the newer variants of the M/GLE-Class and the Metris, to some extent).
