Women played a significant role in the American Revolutionary War. Some did fight on the battlefield! Others contributed by serving as nurses, cooks, laundresses, water bearers and seamstresses for the Continental Army. Camp followers included women who, wishing to be by their husband's side, followed them on their campaigns and helped keep army camps running smoothly. On the home front women raised money to support the war effort. They also utilized their skills in spinning, weaving, and sewing to assist the revolutionary cause.
