Eisenhower Quilt 18/31

This is one of the first quilts I ever started back in the late 70’s. It was before rotary cutters and quilt rulers.

I know now why it only made it to this size. Those seams!

This week I seam ripped 3 white diamonds from the edge and hand sewed them to the spaces open around the yellow star. “I did it” after all these years!!!

I do have what looks like an old hospital sheet that I will use to continue with. *************** I matched up 19 fabrics from the 70s and earlier with solids in my stash. I picked up the fabrics at garage sales and thrift stores over the years for this project and for an appliqué Maple Leaf I started around the same time. I think I know where it is in storage and hope to pull out for my challenge this month.

I drafted a new paper pattern.

I remember my first diamond back in the 70s was on a cereal box template that I traced on the fabric with a pencil and cut out with a scissors. I’ll have to look closely to see if some pencil marks exist.

There is a purple star. I know the fabric bleeds. Would you take it out? Would you wash the removed star until the bleeding stops and put it back in? Does a fabric ever stop bleeding???
