Every Little Thing You Do Is Magic!! - Yes,There Is A Story!
Essentially I have 3 intertwined stories to share about personal magic. When I went to Atlanta week before last, no less than 5 women complimented me on my nail color between the time I hit the Tampa Airport and drove out of the rental lot in Atlanta. I had to stop on my way to the friends I stayed with over the weekend to pick up my hairspray (aerosol…the only one I can’t live without), and I saw the nail polish on sale, buy one get one half off. I decided to pick up 2, one for touch-ups and one to give to the next person who complimented me on my nails. It ended up being a friend and co-worker named Jasmin, and how jazzed was Jazzy, when she complimented me on my nail color and I said, “One second”, went and got a bottle from my purse, told her she was the winner and gave it to her? I told her the story, which made her laugh and say, “Only you, Kathleen.”
Fast forward to today, I’m out running errands like crazy because last weekend my happiness was stuck on the couch putting ice on my sciatica issue. I took Jessi with me as much as possible because she was a lump with me last weekend. Seriously, I had popped into so many places, and used 3 different cards depending on whether it was for the house, for me, or whatever. One place we went was Mister Car Wash, and as we were getting out of the car, one of the employees asked me where I got the “Cherries” in the photo. He thought his girlfriend would like them, I told him Dollar General, but they were $5 bucks, and it was a couple of years ago.
The last place I stopped was Route 60 Liquor for beer, because my father-in-law is staying with us, and the Coors Light we have in stock is like water to him, so I picked up some Dogfish Head IPA (because I’m making a shark out of the caps for my hubby’s nautical room…weird huh?) I think it will be cool though. While I was in the store, one of the employees, Tim, knew I was a photographer and asked me if I would be interested in photographing his son who is looking for some headshots. Sure, here’s my number, here’s my card and e-mail. The other employee named Nicole said she liked my nail color. (I had just purchased 2 more bottles buy one get one half off, because I figured if everyone liked it this much, my sister would like it too.) So, I told her she was today’s winner of a bottle of the nail color, but she needed to be the new marketing rep. I gave Tim the bottle for her when he walked me to my car. The color for those who are interested is called “Pat on the Black” by Sally Hansen. It’s a DEEP wine that looks black, and not at all “Goth”. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, just not my goal.
When I got home, I searched the internet for these Cherries, so I could call the guy at the carwash and let him know where he could find them for his girlfriend, which I did. www.clingblings.com I also purchased some additional cling blings and sent the company a nice e-mail about how my original one has lasted in spite of many carwashes, and how many people have commented on it. As I’m looking for my card to make the purchase I realize I’m a card short. I searched my purse, searched my car, and then I went to call Route 60 and see if I had left it there. I noted I had a voicemail, so I listened to it first. Sure enough if was Tim at Rt. 60, letting me know I had left my debit card there.
The moral of the story is hopefully pretty obvious. The Magic is being engaged with the world, being good to people, and maybe, just maybe giving a little extra something special if you can, as in surprising people. Most of the time, I’m certainly not surprising people with purchased gifts, but I often surprise people because I’m listening and I remember what they say. Listening with your heart and mind, and perhaps more importantly doing something with the knowledge in word, thought or act is powerful Magic, and I wanted to share it with you. Someone told me recently that I’m disarming. I think they might be one of the best compliments I’ve received this year. I’ve been a corporate recruiter for going on 20 years in the Tampa market, and its good Karma thinking of all the lives I’ve touched in that time. What goes around definitely comes around my friends.
In the words of Bill and Ted, “Be Excellent to Each Other”. =o)
