Dragonfly Sunday - Scarlet Skimmer

This was actually the last shot of the day, and the best of this red dragonfly. I had finally just sat down in the sun, on the bank of the pond. It was hot and humid, and sweat was running in my eyes. I started to talk to him, as he kept flitting by me. "Come on dude, give me a little break here; I'm not gonna hurtcha."

 

I need to work on my dragonfly whispering, moreover, I need a better lens for these shots. This is heavily cropped and slightly sharpened, but I'm still really proud of the capture especially of the color. They seriously glow like a reflector as they fly through the sunlight! They're like a tiny flourescent highway cone as they buzz by you. This is a bit more subtle due to that grass shadow on the tail. I like the deep color of the eyes and the little lights on the wings. Not a "Great" shot, but I'm out there, and I'm trying, and any decent dragonfly shot is a thrill for me. Thanks for viewing! =o) ***All rights to my images are STRICTLY reserved.
