On the left-hand sock, I held the white wool in my right hand and the colour wool in my left. On the right-hand sock, I did the opposite. Although it makes a noticeable difference to the main pattern on the top of the foot, the 1 x 1 pattern on the toe is unaffected (or at least subtle enough that I can live with it).
